Yvonne Farrell und Shelley McNamara, Grafton Architects - “Anchor and Animation”
“Anchor + Animation emphasise two worlds we inhabit as Architects – the real and the imagined. Real anchors…place, materials, culture, pattern, experience, earth, city. Real animation…light, the path of the sun, changing seasons, people, movement, use. Philosophical anchors…things that remain true, things that have stood the test of time. Philosophical animation comes about by being open to new ideas, new experiences, new influences, conversations which change the way we look at the world. The imagined world is anchored in architectural memory. As things change, Architec- ture becomes even more responsible for anchoring and animating human values.”
Yvonne Farrell und Shelley McNamara aus Irland gründeten Grafton Architects 1978. Für ihre Arbeiten haben sie mehrere Auszeichnungen erhalten, u.a. gewannen sie 2008 den ‚Building of the Year Award’ für ihr Fakultätsgebäude der Luigi Bocconi Universität in Milano. Zurzeit unterrichten Sie in an der Accademia di architettura in Mendrisio.

Sie hätten ihn längst bekommen können, doch vielleicht waren sie noch zu jung. 2020 also, 42 Jahre nach ihrer Bürogründung, wurden Yvonne Farrell und Shelley McNamara nun mit dem Pritzker-Preis gewürdigt.
